Music Therapy Month is Here!

Music Therapy Month is March and it is here! Music Heals partnered with Blenz as an official iPod Pharmacy depot in British Columbia. For every iPod donation you make you’ll receive a free $5 gift card.

In Toronto we partnered with Vortex Records and Twelfth Fret Guitar Shop. The online zine Toronto is Awesome helped out by letting me post a guest blog on the topic of Music Therapy Month and the iPod Pharmacy. If you’d like to read or share it you can find it here.

Please lend a hand by helping us spread the word about music therapy month, the iPod Pharmacy and Music

Screen shot 2014-02-18 at 7.14.59 AM

Hello friends!

I’m extremely excited to report that two businesses here in Toronto will be joining the iPod Pharmacy campaign for Music Therapy Month as official depots. If you have an old functioning iPod or mp3 playing device that you don’t use any more and would like to donate to be repurposed in local Music Therapy practices, you can now donate them to the Music Heals iPod Pharmacy in Toronto.

From now until the end of March  the Twelfth Fret Guitar Shop (2132 Danforth Ave) and Vortex Records (2309 Yonge St) will both accept your mp3 device donations. All donations will be repurposed as tools for local Music Therapists in their practices.

If you have a device that you’d like to donate please visit the Twelfth Fret or Vortex Records. If you have any questions or would like to know how you could get involved in the iPod Pharmacy or if you’d like to make your business a depot, please respond to this post or contact me at

Ontario iPod Pharmacy

Some of you may remember my push to collect iPods for Music Heals a couple autumns ago. Being that March is Music Therapy Month Chris Brandt (the co founder of Music Heals) and I figured my Eastern Canadian tour dates in February would be the perfect lead up and opportunity to get the iPod Pharmacy going again.

Do you have an old mp3 player that you’ve kept around but don’t use any more since you upgraded? Here’s your chance to repurpose your old mp3 players by donating them as a tool for music therapists to use with their patients. All of the devices that I collect over will be distributed by Music Heals to music therapists in your community to aid them in their practice. If you have a device that is still functioning that you would like to repurpose, please stop by one of the tour dates listed on the poster below.

Please help spread the word by sharing this post.
Thanks so much for your continuing support,

Songwriter’s Circle for Music Heals

_DSC1057I played in an absolutely amazing songwriter’s circle last Tuesday as a fundraiser for Music Heals at the Biltmore Cabaret. Flanked by Ryan Guldemond of Mother Mother, Hilary Grist, Head of the Herd and Lydia Hol (the organizer of the event) I was absolutely astounded by the beauty of the songs and the attentiveness of the audience.

Unbeknownst to me Lydia and her awesome team were busy filming the night and captured really great videos of each of the performers. Here is a very new song of mine that I played that night called “I miss the 80’s”. For Jennifer Grey, Cyndi Lauper and Molly Ringwald. Where’d they go go?

iPod Pharmacy- Help Music Therapy

Let me ask you a question. Do you have an old iPod or mp3 player at home that still works that you don’t use anymore because you got a new one? If so, I strongly encourage you to donate the old one to the Music Heals iPod Pharmacy. As you’ll see in the video below, iPods are an incredible therapeutic tool used every where from old folks homes to children’s hospitals.

I’ve teamed up with Music Heals in an effort to help Music Therapy Programs. If you donate a used but still functioning iPod, you’ll be entered to win a Free House Concert from myself.

If you’d like to help out please send your used but functioning mp3 player to:

“Attn: iPod Pharmacy”
Suite 400 – 1788 W. 5th Ave.,
Vancouver, B.C. V6J 1P2

Remember to include your name and contact information so we can get ahold of you when you win the contest.

I’m Collecting Old iPods for Music Heals

How many of us bought an iPod a couple years ago and have since upgraded to using only our iPhone or superior mp3 players? I know I fit into that category.

I thought to myself the other day wouldn’t it be great to put our unused iPods to good use the while chatting with Music Heals co-founder Chris Brandt. Chris explained to me that music therapy and music therapists were often in need of simply more iPods for their patients to listen to.

Starting today I am collecting any old or used iPods and MP3 players for Music Heals. The Music Heals foundation will give the iPods to young children in hospital care and the elders at nursing homes. In return for your donation you will receive free admission to a concert of mine and be entered in a draw for a chance to win a free House Concert from myself. If you are from the Vancouver area or if you are not able to make it to a show in the East, your donation will still count towards an entry for the House Concert.

The campaign starts today, please consult the list of shows below, in the case of some shows where I’m not in charge of the cover charge or the show is already free etc, any iPod donation will receive a free copy of my record “If Baby Could Walk” as well as being entered into the House Concert draw.
